Heritage Home Tours
On an autumn day in 2003, the Preservation Alliance sponsored its very first Heritage Home Tour. What began as a single afternoon event has grown into one of La Crosse's most beloved community traditions — a chance for neighbors and visitors alike to step inside the homes they've always admired from the sidewalk.
Each year, the Heritage Home Tour opens the doors of some of La Crosse's most striking historic residences, inviting the public to explore homes they may have driven past countless times while wondering what lay behind the front door. From grand Victorians to charming bungalows, these homes tell the story of our city's architectural heritage - and of the families who have lovingly cared for them across generations.
Why We Tour
The Heritage Home Tour serves two purposes close to PAL's heart:
For the community, it's a rare and intimate look inside beautifully preserved and restored homes - an "up close and personal" glimpse of what thoughtful renovation, restoration, and preservation can accomplish. Visitors leave with fresh appreciation for the craftsmanship of a bygone era and practical inspiration for their own homes.
For PAL, the tour is a cornerstone of our mission: raising awareness of the importance of preserving La Crosse's rich structural heritage. Every home on the tour is a living example of why historic preservation matters - not just for nostalgia's sake, but for the character, identity, and vitality of our neighborhoods.
Open Your Home to the Community
Do you own a historic home with a story to tell? PAL is always looking for homeowners willing to share their piece of La Crosse's history with the community. Whether your home has been in your family for generations or you've poured your own care into a careful restoration, we'd love to feature it on a future tour.
